Abstract,

we base our ideas and orientations on previous studies that have properly delineated the crying need but also the challenges faced by African HEIs to adapt to current and future job market demands and to ambitious student expectations. Existing frameworks for digital transformation in Africa are mainly focused on what we should use rather than how to be selective and precise in the way we use digital facilities.

Objectives

Our project will aim to develop a competency-based approach to tailor these frameworks to the needs of African universities. In fact, there are significant differences in digital maturity among African countries, both in terms of supporting IT infrastructure and in terms of the population’s needed supporting skills and digital literacy.

To avoid a one-size-fits-all approach to digital education implementation, African higher education authorities need to help promote the education system in their countries as a flexible and multidimensional environment for implementing and testing digital strategies that are adaptable and transferable to other sectors.

This strategy should provide means and techniques to help leaders to foster digital transformation in their institutions by leveraging the following actions: Assess, Encourage, Train, Facilitate, Recognise, Reward, Share and Evaluate.
